Messages from others who have seat belt extenders

I purchased my 1990 Geo Storm (dealer demo) from Craig Chevrolet in Arvada, Colorado, in December 1991. I requested seat belt extenders at the time of purchase. The sales person had not heard of them, however he was pleasant and called the service department. They were temporarily out of them, but back ordered a set for me. I had them in 10 days and they were given to me free of charge.

My husband Guy purchased a 1990 Lincoln Towncar from a private party in 1995. The previous owner did not have extenders. He called Encinitas Ford; Encinitas, California, and asked about getting seat belt extenders for his car. The service department checked, and had them in stock. Guy went and picked them up immediately, and they were provided free of charge.

I think every other major make of automobile [besides Honda] will provide free extenders, although it's not always convenient. (Toyota took forever.)

Chrysler/Plymouth took a week. They ordered them from the factory, I got two the week after I bought the car .. and no charge.

I was able to get two seatbelt extenders (in different sizes) for my 1985 Corolla and 1989 Van last year, each in a different size. Both were free and took a single call to the parts department. They did have to be ordered, but I got them in about a week. I had been ticketed about a month earlier for driving without a seatbelt.

Just wanted to let you know that when I bought my Mitsubishi car last year and mentioned that I needed 2 seatbelt extensions for the front seats, they had them federal expressed overnight in the colors to match my regular seatbelts. All this was done at no charge.

I have gotten a seatbelt extender for my car this past year. I bought a '98 Mercury Mystique in town here (I live in Illinois) and found that sometimes the seatbelt wouldn't quite go out far (I weight about 250 lbs.) I went to the dealership. It's a Ford/Mercury dealership and they requested that Ford send one out ASAP. It arrived the next day. It clips on to the end of my seatbelt and makes it much nicer to drive. It was provided free.

I have an 89 Dodge Spirit and a 98 Chrysler 300M and to get the seatbelt extenders was very easy. When I purchased my 300M I asked the dealer about them I told him I did not need them but would like to have them for all 4 seats just in case and by the time I signed my final papers 3 days later I had them all!! They were very kind and generous and I mentioned that I had an 89 dodge and he told me where to go and get them Free of charge!!! (o; So I am a Happy Camper!!

Roger has a Ford Explorer, 1993, and we were able to get extenders for that within a week from the dealer, and at no charge. Mara has been trying to get extenders from Mazda for her1989 Mazda 626 since October. As of February 8 she has not yet received them.

I purchased a used 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier about 3-4 years ago. I hadn't even gotten my paperwork done when a cop pulled me over on the way to work. I showed him that the belt didn't fit, and he didn't give me a ticket, but it did motivate me to go in and get extenders.

I had purchased the car in San Pable, CA, but I work near Daly City, CA, so after work I went to the Chevrolet dealer on Serramonte Blvd. I told them what I was looking for and a guy came out to my car with a notebook full of drawings and matched my seat belt latch by the drawing in the book. He asked me if I wanted 9-inch or a 15-inch extender. I asked him if I could get one of each and he said sure, no problem. They had to order them because they didn't keep them in stock, but I had 2 seat-belt extenders by the end of the week.

The extenders were FREE! Chevrolet, at least the dealer in Serramonte, did NOT CHARGE me - even though my purchase of this vehicle was in no way connected to his establishment and the car was used.

I just rented a Chevrolet Malibu. Unfortunately it was not all that comfortable. I'd probably rather have a Honda, but I'd rather deal with Chevrolet. Seatbelt extenders were absolutely no hassle from Chevrolet.

I'm currently looking for a new, or possibly new used car. From all I've read about Honda and their extender policy over the last few years, it has completely wiped them from my consideration. I used to think the Honda Civic was the most comfortable little car for big people, but I haven't even bothered to check out the later models. What good is it if I can't be legal driving it?

I did not get seatbelt extenders with my current Mazda, but with our Toyota, it was easy to get them, even on a 10-year-old car. They were free, but took two weeks to get. Just drove into the local dealer and said fix me up.

When we bought our Mazda we were offered extenders, but I did not need them since the stock ones fit.

We did not consider buying a Honda because of their reputation of not caring about the safety of their customers.

When I lived with my parents we never had any trouble getting a seat belt extender for any car. . .pontiac, oldsmobile, dodge, and ford. Recently my husband and I purchased a ford truck. Even when we didn't purchase the car from the dealership, I have never had a problem getting a seat belt extender, no charge. I am puzzled by Honda's reluctance to provide them.

I just last week purchased a new Chevrolet Ventura mini-van. I made a seat belt extender a part of the deal, as I have done with my last four r so vehicles, and while the salesperson was this little waifish thing and didn't know a bit about them, the service manager was very quick to invite us back to his area and get measured for them.

It turns out that GM makes them in two sizes - 9" and 15" and they take about a week to get. The seat belt on the Venture fits around me, it just doesn't give me any room to lean forward or anything. So we ordered two of the 9" seatbelts. Supposedly they'll also work in the backseat, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

The Venture, by the way, feels really good to me. I am 5'1" and 250 lbs, and I usually have trouble moving the seat back far enough so I my tummy doesn't interfere with the steering wheel, but not too far for my fat little legs to reach the pedals. There is a perfect mix here, and I like driving the vehicle. My hubby is 5'11" and 280 lbs and he likes the way it sits, too.

Now, on my last car, a Suzuki, they weren't so good about a getting me an extender, and I had to make some vague lawsuit threats first. I also showed up at the dealership one day and told the sales manager I was there to return my car since he wasn't able to fulfill the contract. I had my seatbelt extender the very next day - pretty amazing, I think.

I have never had a problem getting a seatbelt extender. I had an extender for an Oldsmobile I had and one for a Pontiac and my husband has one in his Ford that we currently own. My parents recently bought a new Oldsmobile 88 and they got 2 seat belt extenders.

We purchased a Plymouth Minivan in 1995. I immediately informed the dealership, Taylor Chrysler/Plymouth in Kankakee, Illinois, that we would need two seatbelt extenders. There was no hesitation what-so-ever in providing them. They did have to order them, as they were not in stock, but they had to order other accessories I wanted also.

I had to wait perhaps two to three days, and they apologized profusely that they were only available in black, and the interior of my van was driftwood sand colored. (Like I really cared?).

We no longer live near that dealership, but the one we use now has the exact same attitude. Unless I had to have that Honda, I would not purchase it. If the company isn't concerned with your safety driving in it, what will be the next thing they want to ignore about it? Doesn't sound too accommodating to me.
