Honda Says "No" to Seat Belts for Larger Passengers

Washington, D.C. 20590 Dear Traffic folks,

I am writing in support of Elizabeth Fisher's petition to amend Federal Regulation SEC. 571.209 Standard No. 209, Seat Belt Assemblies.

I find it ludicrous to force people for their own safety to wear seatbelts by law only to make them unavailable for people of size. How can we be expected to obey the law if the law excludes us? Who is going to be the one to tell my children the reason I died in the accident is because of the law? Who is going to tell them that for pennies, a seatbelt extender could have been made for my Honda but that Honda refused. Who will be the one to tell them that I was not thought of when the law for seatbelts was made simply because of my size? Are you to say that because I am fat...I don't matter?

I lead a very productive life and support my two children on my own without the governments help. Why am I being excluded or denied the opportunity to obey the law, provide a good example for my children, and possibly save my life? You dare to tell me the reason for my questions is because of my weight? What other laws do I break because of my weight? Do they also have the potential to save my life?

Seatbelt extenders and longer seatbelts should be an option when purchasing any car. For something that costs pennies to make Vs millions of dollars in lawsuits...DUH-HUH what is taking so long to make the decision? What is the conflict? Where are the brains? Get with the program people! Fat does not mean that we should be excluded....we obey the laws like everyone else....so why are we excluded?
