Honda Says "No" to Seat Belts for Larger Passengers

July 30, 2000

Administrator
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
400 Seventh Street, SW
Washington, DC 20590

To whom it may concern:

I am writing in support of Elizabeth Fisher's petition to amend Federal Regulation SEC. 571.209 Standard No. 209, Seat Belt Assemblies.

By now, you have received over 200 letters urging your amendment to Federal Regulation SEC. 571.209 Standard No. 209, Seat Belt Assemblies. Many letters contain personal tragedy stories. Some letters contain near misses. Some letters express concern over a regulation designed on size specifications that are forty years old. All of the letters are pleading for the safety that a properly fitting seat belt has been proven to provide. All of the letters share the common goal of updating a forty-year-old standard to meet or exceed current realities.

In light of President Clintonıs push for "a plan that will save lives and reduce injuries on our highways", I urge you to amend this outdated regulation to make that possible for several hundred thousand more Americans.

Buckle Up America be the Administrator who made it possible for all Americans.

Sincerely,

Allison Wagner
